A heated neck and shoulder massager works best when you use it the same way every time. This simple routine takes about 10 minutes and fits into a lunch break, the end of a shift or the hour before bed.
1. Charge it first
Cordless massagers like the Evenwarm heated neck and shoulder massager charge over USB. Charge it fully, then unplug it. It won't run while it's plugged in, which keeps the cable out of your way and keeps you from using it near an outlet.
2. Sit somewhere you can relax your shoulders
Choose a chair with back support or the corner of a couch. Let your arms hang loosely. If your shoulders are up near your ears, take two slow breaths and let them drop before you start.
3. Drape it on and find the straps
Rest the massager over the back of your neck so the kneading heads sit on either side of your spine, just above the shoulder blades. Slip your hands through the straps. Your hands set the pressure: keep the straps loose for a light knead, or pull down gently for a deeper one.
4. Start without heat, then add it
Press power and give the kneading heads a minute to warm up your muscles. Then switch on the heat. The warm compress sits behind the heads, so you feel the warmth exactly where they work.
5. Move it every few minutes
After three or four minutes, slide the massager a little higher toward the base of your skull, then a little lower across the tops of your shoulders. You can also use it on the lower back or the calves.
6. Stop at about 15 minutes
Longer isn't better. Keep sessions to about 15 minutes. The built-in timer ends each session on its own, so you can close your eyes without watching the clock.
Quick safety notes
- Don't use it while sleeping, while driving or on broken skin.

Make it a habit
People who get the most from a massager tie it to something they already do: the end of the workday, the drive home as a passenger, or the evening news. Pick one and keep it there for a week.
